This heart that I have within my chest, it’s not mine to nurture anymore. You laid claim to it, slowly and steadily as I came to know you. Relentlessly your thoughts pursued it, not giving me time to ask if this is what it really wanted.
And this traitorous heart-the one that I kept hidden for so long, it left me and fell for you! The barriers that I had put up, crumbled like a castle of sand. The distance that I tried to keep – well it ate away the miles in between.
And yet.
And yet it still bleeds, this heart of mine.
It bleeds for you, for the misery it felt from your heart.
It bleeds now, with the tears that it soaks up from your eyes.
And it bleeds yet again, when your past rears it head to collide with mine.
I ask my heart to come back to me. It agreed. But with a catch though.
I’ve imprinted myself onto his heart, it said. We may seem different but in all senses we are now one. To have me back you accept us both, or we just abandon you and stay united.
Did you give him this choice? I wanted to know. What was his reply ? I was eager to know.
My heart looked at me and sadly it smiled. He’s left this choice upon your shoulder. He seemed distraught too and could not decide.
Him and I, we are now without our hearts. We did not know what to do or decide. But our hearts? Theirs is a different story.
Unlike us, they are not afraid to love. And whilst we argued, fought and mistrusted each other, they took off and abandoned us.
They have a different world now, our hearts. They flourish now both together, all laughter, sunshine and glorious trust.
They chose love over us, and hope each day that we follow soon.
